Jean Antoine Villemin (1827-92) was a French medical bacteriologist and independent researcher of tuberculous disease. Working in Paris, he discovered bovine tuberculosis circa 1854. In 1865 he demonstrated by inoculation into healthy animals the contagious nature of material from the pathological nodules, results later improved upon by Cohnheim and by Koch.
