Doors, by an unknown, possibly Italian, sculptor. 1 Moorgate, London. 1844-45. Bronze, 2.5m high x 2.1m wide. According to Ward-Jackson, “these reliefs are conceived in an almost nineteenth-century academic vein, but they are carried out in a suggestive impressionistic modeling style.” The building on which they appear — the Banco di Napoli, the original owner of the building — suggests that the sculptor may be Italian.
