Wall-mounted Victorian Post Box

Wall-mounted Victorian Post Box

Cheyne Row, Chelsea, London

Wall-mounted post boxes, which were cheaper to produce than the free-standing pillar boxes, were introduced in 1857. This one is likely to have been used by such notables as Carlyle, George Eliot, Rossetti, Willliam de Morgan and others living in the immediate vicinity.
