Cloth binding for 'Longfellow's Poetical Works’

John Sliegh

1857

Cloth binding

9¼ x 7¾ inches

Perhaps Sliegh's most eye-catching design, this impressive piece of geometry combines all of his most characteristic motifs to create a memorable framework for the title. The book was re-issued in 1860 and 1865, with only the Sliegh backstip retained; the front cover for these new editions is probably by A. H. Warren. This mixture of elements by different designers was typical of the time.
