Mr Wind

Charles Bennett

1864

Wood engraving by an unidentified engraver

5¼ x 3½ inches

Illustration for Paul de Musset,Mr Wind and Madam Rain, p.18.

One of Bennett’s inventive comic designs, combining a series of events to create a child’s eye view of the world. The use of diagonals produces a dynamic effect, animating the page with a complicated pattern that threatens to break out of the margins.
