Sliegh, frontispiece for Odes and Sonnets.

This resplendent design typifies Sliegh’s combination of floral motifs with an austere geometry. It is closely related to his chromolithographic work for Owen Jones, although the medium here is coloured wood engraving. This was executed by the Dalziel Brothers, entering a field otherwise dominated by Edmund Evans. [Commentary continues below.
