The Berg Bahn (Mountain Railroad), a portable layout intended for display at conventions, was created by members of the European Train Enthusiasts — Eastern New England Chapter. Once set up and plugged in, it runs continuously without supervision, as the train automatically reverses its way past Alpine scenery and towns.

A lovely alpine town scene viewed from one end of the layout.

As this photograph shows, the construction of the benchwork developed by Justin Maguire employs baltic plywood lightened by removing circular sections and then topped with styrofoam — sturdy but very light.
