Thalys pulls out of the station at Aachen heading to Frankfurt. July 2013. We were lucky that we had tickets on the DB ICE to Frankfurt rather than on this train, since we had two additional connections to make and, as the train board in the station pointed out, this one was three hours late and the one following an hour late! The locomotive is considerably higher than the passenger cars it pulls, so the car next to the engine has a cowling to make a better visual transition and to create streamlining.
