Abolitionist Heroes

Abolitionist Heroes

Mid to late nineteenth century

Wood-engraving

A framed print of this engraving hangs in the bar of the Falcon, Clapham Junction, as a reminder of those prominent members of the Clapham Sect who campaigned successfully for the abolition of the slave trade. As well as Wilberforce and other notables, it depicts Thomas Fowler Buxton, the abolitionist whose memorial drinking fountain now stands in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster.
