A Very Vulgar Question

A Very Vulgar Question

Gordon Thomson (fl. 1866-1886)

Wood engraving by the Dalziels

Fun (29 January 1879)

Lord B [eaconsfield].: — “H’m, what a pity it is you are not an Eastern Question or an Afghan Difficulty, as then I would know what to do with you.”

The generally liberal Fun here emphasizes Disraeli’s neglect of serious problems at home — which it does in part by his crown, lavish and garish clothing, and his monocle.
