Young lady (daughter of an eminent cheesemonger: — “Oh, I don’t know; if they’re anything like cabmen very quite deserve it.”

Making clear that the ignorant young woman’s father is a cheesemonger is a nasty bit of snobbery. Most of similar misunderstandings in Punch cartoons make the speakers of the same social class.
