Joan Thornycroft

Sir W. Hamo Thornycroft, R. A. (1850-1925)

Brown patinated bronze on marble base

17 7/8 inches

Private Collection, Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

In Art Bronzes (1988), Michael Forrest attributes this work, which he calls “A Young Woman,” to Thornycroft and states, “this is presumed to be a portrait of Thornycroft's daughter Joan” (377). Others have suggested on stylistic grounds that it might be by Alfred Drury.
