Building of the Kensington, Hammersmith, and Richmond Railway-bridge at Kew. Source: the 1867 Illustrated London News, which comments, “The short line of railway, intended to connect the Richmond branch of the London and Booth-Western Railway with the North and South Western Junction line at Acton, and with the Hammersmith and Kensington stations of the Metropolitan Railway, is now being rapidly constructed. It will be conducted across the Thames by an iron bridge at Strand-on-the-Green, between Chiswick and Brentford, about half a mile below Kew Bridge. We give an illustration of the building of this bridge, which does not materially differ from other railway bridges in the neighbourhood of London.” [Click on image to enlarge it.]
