Cloth casing, with a gilt device.

A repeat of Richard Doyle’s wood-engraved illustration on the pictorial title page.

1851; new edition dated 1858.

Wood-engraved transfer on pink paper boards.

8¼ x 6 inches

This is a variant binding: the version bound in ‘cloth elegant’ and with hand-coloured illustrations was sold at 4 shillings and sixpence; the one shown here is the cheap imprint, in black and white and bound in paper, as 2/6. Both versions repeat the image on the title page. Few copies have survived in their paper format and the copy shown here is in remarkably good condition.
