Fell worked in elite and populist idioms, creating high-quality designs for general consumption. This composition in black line on a light blue background is one of several elegant pieces he did for the inexpensive market. The sinuous lines are in the manner of Art Nouveau, although the neo-medievalism is distinctly Pre-Raphaelite in tone. The book also contains illustrations by Fell, and he uses the covers to prepare the reader for the pages’ imagery.
