Madonna and Child with Angels, in the style of the Della Robbia company. This lovely lunette, with its typical subject and surround of rich fruit, is ideal for the Anglo-Catholic church of St Martin's, Low Marple, that it adorns. Della Robbia work of this kind was popular in the Arts and Crafts movement to which the architects and designers of the church and its interior (J. D. Sedding, Henry Wilson, Christopher Whall and others) belonged. But according to the church notes the lunette purchased by Father Hickson in the late nineteenth century, whilst he was on holiday in Italy, is probably a reproduction.
