Vogler's Commentary

Cherry, or The Frog Bride. The young prince is set next to a pumpkin drawn by six water rats shortly before the transformation of the frog into the princess. Those who question the propriety of translating such stories literally for children are alarmed by passages like the following: "The delighted father embraced his son, and named him heir to his crown, and ordered all the other ladies to be thrown like little dogs into the sea and drowned." [No. 60, p. 138]
