An Infelicitious Speech

“Why, you’re looking better already, Sir Ronald!”

“Yes, thanks to your delightful hospitality, I’ve had everything my doctor ordered me: ‘Fresh air, good food, agreeable society, and cheerful conversation that involves no strain on the intellect!’”

Like many of his other cartoons, this one carefully documents contemporary fashionable clothing for men and women. Note the invalid’s late Victorian version of leisure suit, the enormous sleeves on the three women, and the long ribbons falling behind the woman’s bonnet.
