This children’s book is a good example of the collaborative model of the period: the main illustrations are by H. K. Browne (Phiz), while the title page, decorative borders and cloth binding are designed by Macquoid. The engravings are cut and printed in colour by Edmund Evans, creating a rich and luxurious palette of reds and greens for the festive season. Macquoid’s bouquet of poppies and grasses combines the exactitude of botany with lyrical pattern-making.
