Dr. Gladstone, who stands before medicine jars labelled "Extract of Franchise" and "Redistribution of Seats" offers Disraeli a glass of bitter medicine, telling him "There! You'd better take it at once; the more you look at it, the worse you'll like it." In fact, the more Disraeli looked at the idea of extending the franchise and thus creating many more voters, the more this conservative liked it, and he pushed through a particularly radical reform bill, part of whose effect was to create a large number of working class men who voted Tory!
