East Window of the Keble (south) Chapel, St Peter's, Hinton Road, Bournemouth, by Clayton and Bell. This three-light window is a memorial to John Keble who was so important to the the Oxford Movement. It was installed in 1867, the year after his death. The scenes shown are Mary meeting the risen Christ: "Touch me not. I am not yet ascended" (Noli me Tangere); Christ rising from the tomb with the guards below and angels above; and Christ appearing to the disciples: "Be not faithless but believing." The emphasis here is all on resurrection and faith, as might be expected in a tribute to the influential theologian. Brilliant colour (including the abstract patterning in the tracery, and the floral motifs at the top of each light) is also a feature, fittingly enough in this richly decorated chapel.
