This is one of Graham's typical landscapes featuring Highland cattle, but mellower and more picturesque than many others, with the cattle lying or standing in the slanting sunshine, and patches of heather brightening the moorland. It was this kind of canvas that ensured a good income: "the artist is always in the happy position of never having any work left upon his hands" ("Scottish Landscape," 499). — Jacqueline Banerjee.
