This cartoon, which tries to make a joke out of one child’s mistaking “weir” for “where,” is particularly interesting in the way it portrays rural poverty without comment. One boy’s toes stick out of his shoes. He wears an outer shirt with sleeves raggedly torn off while his companion, who wears a countryman’s smock, has a large patch on his trousers.
