black buckram boards with paper label

This first edition of Newman's famous work of religious controversy bears the label of "Simms & Dinham, Booksellers and Stationers, Exchange Street, Manchester." Many prosperous individuals and organizations would have had such a volume rebound in leather. The fact that this copy remained in its original form suggests that its owner was a serious but not very wealthy student of contemporary religious issues [GPL].
