Cloth binding for Evans’s ‘Lays from Other Lands’

1861

Blue cloth gilt

6½ x 4 inches

Evans’s poems are self-published, and the book is one of many hundreds of works by aspiring poets. The contents are a purely conventional offering of pious and Romantic verse, of limited interest, and with that in mind the author arranged for an unknown designer to embellish the binding with a rustic border, in the manner of Rethel, featuring a spreading ivy.
