Caldecott illustrated this book in black and white and designed an original montage for the front cover. Working in the Arts and Crafts tradition of Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane, Caldecott creates his characteristically sweet and lyrical effects, uniting imagery of a magical childhood with pictures of adventure.
