Monument to John Spencer (d. 1865 age 27). Brookwood Cemetery, Cemetery Pales, Brookwood, Woking, Surrey, Greater London. The inscription in part reads “In Memory of John Spencer aged 27 years who met his death by accident while engaged a fireman on the London & S.W. Ry in Winchester on the 11th Octr 1865. In the midst of life we are in death.” The cover on the main driving wheel bears the name “Firebrand,” presumably the name of the locomotive. [Click on images to enlarge them.]
