The Egg Dance”

The Egg Dance

William Henry Boucher (1837-1906)

Judy, or the London Serio-Comic Journal 184-85)

As Performed at the T. R., St. Stephens, by a Famous Double Shuffler

Boucher, who presents Gladstone unable to handle multiple serious issues, including the Deceased Wife’s Sister Act, Contagious Diseases Act, Reform Acts, and licensing bills, among others, shows him having botched the Alabama Claims negotiations with the United States.

Jacqueline Banerjee suggests that “T. R., St. Stephens” might be the Theatre Royal, St Stephen's Green, in Dublin, and that the egg dance might make fun of Irish dancing.
