Over the Sea, 1903. Photomechanical reproduction of a pen and ink drawing. This is a representation of Hartmann’s battleship. Jane represents the imaginary craft as a fusion of an airship and maritime warship, giving credibility to a type of craft that did not (and does not) exist. However, the power of the visual representation gives credence to the idea that the anarchist Hartmann could pose a serious threat to British society.
