"Hugh Sandys, the artist's son, aged about six," modelled for the head of St. George, and this was the artist's second study. "He wrote to Charles Howell about it on 8th August, 1880 'I have made another drawing of the boy's head twenty times as good I think'" than his first attempt. — Rupert Maas
