Red and yellow tiling with borders (1) by Minton, originally laid at the Chapter House, York Minster during Sydney Smirke's restoration of 1844-45. Within the octagonal floor are eight large trapezoidal areas and a smaller central octagon. This makes for some complicated patterning. The Chapter House signage says, "many still have their original yellow overglaze" and explains that an invoice of 1845 indicates that "four patterns are unique to York Minster."
