Agnes would become a lifelong friend of Carroll's, was one of the subjects of his new hobby of wet-plate collodion photography. He developed a copy not only for the girl's mother, but also for her uncle, Alfred Tennyson, whose work he greatly admired. Tennyson' had pronounced the portrait of his niece 'indeed a gem' (Diaries 3: 89 & n138). — Ray Dyer.
